I am a father, musician, documentary filmmaker and public speaker.

I am offering a presentation about mental health and recovery that touches on my personal journey through self-medication, psychiatric abuse, homelessness and eventual recovery through diet, exercise, spirituality, creativity and, ultimately, community support.

I am driven to do this because we are experiencing a global mental health crisis that is fueled by loneliness, the cause and sustainer of mental illness. Without personally and collectively acknowledging and addressing this issue then we are doomed to a continual communal downward spiral that will only result in calamity. Every single one of us has something to offer towards the solution. We can help each other along the way or perish as hateful strangers. It Takes a Village to Heal.

Join me on a journey of hope and healing as we explore the power of mental wellness and recovery through community.

Speaking for Mental Health

Engaging presentations on mental health and recovery, with live musical performances

“It is unusual for a visiting speaker/scholar/practitioner at Harvard to reach an audience on so many levels: hearts, minds and even hands. Patrick’s calm but intense energy and boundless optimism are infectious and powerful tools, especially in combination with his artistic prowess behind the camera and his profound belief in human dignity and our ability to heal ourselves and each other. I’m glad we brought Patrick to Harvard to share his projects and recommend him to other organizations that want to have a frank, practical and far-reaching conversation about contemporary Africa, and the universality of mental health challenges.”

Dr. Susan Cook, Executive Director, Committee on African Studies, Harvard University
